The Other George Washington, aka Bratwurst Jubilee

I like big brats and I cannot lie! Pit and chop down some Rainier cherries. Add the cherries to a bunned brat and top with mini marshmallows. Toast the marshmallows with a kitchen torch and enjoy!

This was the last of 10 of my entries in the Johnsonville Brattender 2012 Brat Cocktail contest, and my personal favorite.

The Blazing Saddle

Turbo-chop a red jalapeño, green jalapeño and some onion. Bun the brat, add the choppage, slap a slice of muenster over the brat and bun, hot sauce the cheese and melt on the grill. Giddyup!

This was 9 out of 10 of my entries in the Johnsonville Brattender 2012 Brat Cocktail contest, and the winning concoction. Thanks again for the Weber Summit S-670 grill, Johnsonville!

The Shallot Stuffer

Caramelize some shallots (a cousin to onion and garlic) and top your brat with their tender, flavonoidy goodness. Finish it off with a light shower of bleu cheese crumbly bit thingies and nom away.

Sir Appelstroop

A modern, bratastic take on the medieval roasted pig with an apple in its mouth. Simply spread some apple butter on your brat & sprinkle with crushed pine nuts & parmesan. Worthy of being knighted.

The Sugar Daddy

Sprinkle brown sugar on a brat right after the grill-to-bun maneuver. Add a stripe of raw wildflower honey & a stripe of amber agave. Top with bacon that’s been baked with brown sugar. That’s rich!

Best of Both Worlds

Blenderize some hummus (garbanzos, tahini sauce, garlic, olive oil, lemon or whatever) with roasted red peppers and smoked paprika, then dollop some on a grilled brat and sprinkle with bacon chunks.

Cranma’s Naughty Secret

In a mini-chopper, combine frozen (or fresh) cranberries, fresh jalapeños, sweet grape tomatoes, a splash of lemon juice and your favorite hot sauce. Pulse to desired consistency and top that brat!

Three Horsemen of the Apocalypse

This trio just might be the end of the world as we know it. Spoon stripes of horseradish-based wasabi, hot horseradish and horseradish mustard on your brat, make peace with your god, and dive in.

Apricot in the Act

If you’ve ever had apricot-glazed ham, you’ll know this one’s going to scandalize your taste buds. After bunning your brat, add equal parts apricot preserves and mild deli mustard. Criminally good.

This is 2 out of 10 of my entries in the Johnsonville Brattender 2012 Brat Cocktail contest.

Note: This combo worked, but next time I’ll keep it ultra-simple and just top with the apricot preserves. Because apricots+piggy=heaven.

Pig in a Poncho

Mexico by way of North Dakota. Lightly grill a tortilla and roll a brat in it along with some hand-ripped leafy lettuce, enchilada sauce, hot sauce, sour cream and dry cottage cheese curds. Bueno, eh?

This is 1 out of 10 of my entries in the Johnsonville Brattender 2012 Brat Cocktail contest.

Note: Be careful of the type of brat you use with this combination — I first tried this with one that tasted like those little breakfast sausages and the flavors got a little funky.
