Saturday’s North Star Auction was a fun one with Saturday’s North Star Auction was a fun one with me going 4 for 4 with the things I was after, and more. An unassuming box of old paper turned out to be filled with midcentury magazines, catalogs and cookbooklets hidden amongst the tattered newsprint. Two boxes of cookbooks were auctioned off together. A pair of Saturday Evening Post magazines from 1926 and 1930 became mine along with a random Life magazine. And late in the auction, I won a nifty 4-panel tabletop screen, but it came along with everything else on the corner of the table it was on, so now I also have a wood basket, a child’s barbell and weights, a very decorative West Germany Ernest Sohn ashtray and stand, an ancient little toolbox, three little wall shelves for spoons or something, a shadow box-type deal with old watch parts in it, random silverware, a ruler, a paint-stirring stick and an arrow. And before that pile, I also won a flat and album of old postcards of Bismarck and Fargo and beyond, along with some other ephemera. This will keep me busy for a while!
