Peas Release Me

Some peas and a knife.

I tend to take photos of some of the things I eat, because I’m ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE. Stuck at home during the pandemic, I’ve been going through my freezer and pantry looking for forgotten food. A bag of frozen peas became a quick lunch, and vaguely remembering an old cartoon (Was it Goofy?), I placed a knife next to the bowl.

Peas and knives are a curious pairing, but not one that’s unheard of. There’s a poem from the 1940s that goes:

I eat my peas with honey;
I’ve done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny,
But it keeps them on the knife.

— attributed to Shel Silverstein, but not by Shel Silverstein according to his archivists

And if you go back to the mid-1800s, you’ll discover that peas and knives made perfect sense because forks back then were stupid.

So what does this have to do with advertising? Nothing. That is, unless you want to start a Knife-Wielding Pea Eaters cultural movement or something.
